Grand Marshal 2008-2009

Connie Skarvan

Connie started her Eastern Star journey upon joining Job’s Daughters. Following completion of her term as Honored Queen in “Jobie’s,” Connie joined Eastern Star and has held various appointed and elected positions, including the office of Worthy Matron for several terms. Connie is thrilled to have been appointed Grand Marshal for the Season for Blessings Family. The position will not only give her a chance to hold a position she has never experienced before, but also provide her with a challenge to learn something new and to meet and work with “Star” brothers and sisters from around Wisconsin and beyond.

Connie was born in Milwaukee and spent part of her early childhood in Idaho before moving to Kewaunee where she has lived ever since. Her mom and dad retired to Idaho in 1986, and her mom still lives there (her dad having passed away in 2003). In June of 1976 Connie married her high school sweetheart, Keith. Although she and her husband do not have any children, they do have a “precocious child”—a Gordon Setter dog named “Sam,” and they love spending time with their families and friends. She has a younger brother and sister—Joe (who lives in Colorado) and Christine (who lives in Idaho about an hour away from mom).

When not participating in Eastern Star activities, she works two days a week as a legal assistant specializing in estate planning and probate for a small law firm in Kewaunee, and the rest of the time (when not traveling) you will find her and her husband at their scuba diving/snorkeling shop (the Aqua Center) in Green Bay. She is also active with her church either singing in the choir or playing the pipe organ during church services.

Connie loves to travel and got the travel bug very early on when going on family vacations and camping trips. Traveling with the Grand Family will be a plus! In February she (and anyone else who wants to tag along) travels to Colorado to downhill ski with her brother (this has been a tradition since 1996) and she also schedules two to four group scuba diving trips a year for her business (she was recently in Papua New Guinea for two weeks the end of April).

Her main hobbies include—you’ve guessed it—downhill skiing and scuba diving, but she also likes to ride her mountain bike and hike. Other activities which she enjoys are card and board games, reading romance novels, knitting, and counted cross stitch. She doesn’t like to be bored!
