Membership Requirements
As our membership recruiting materials state, “Eastern Star is a fraternal organization for women and men, and is a part of the family of Freemasonry. Its inspiring examples of heroic conduct and moral values portray noble principles which adorn the lives of its members. It is dedicated to Charity, Truth and Loving Kindness. It is comprised of persons with religious convictions, but it is not a religion. It is respected for family values, honesty in business and life, service in the community and fraternal love among its members. Eastern Star is many things to many people, but most important of all, it is a way of life!”
Membership requirements for Eastern Star, as well as the Masonic Lodge, focus on the belief in a Supreme Being and good moral character. No specific religious background is required. ALL members of the Lodge and their adult family members are welcome in Eastern Star, and they are no less welcome if they happen to be of a faith tradition other than Christianity. Indeed, Adah, Ruth and Esther were of the Jewish faith. And we have Jewish members in several of our chapters.
Therefore, as our chapters plan public programs for membership, keep in mind that we welcome all faith traditions. Also, if you are planning programs for other purposes within the chapter, especially if the program will highlight or honor any of our heroines, we should be aware of the faith tradition of that heroine, and respect and honor that tradition. Thank you!
Membership Materials
The best way to gain and keep members is to make the meetings fun, conduct business efficiently, and enjoy each other socially before or after the meeting.
This membership area contains a variety of ideas for membership recruitment programs, as well as ideas for programs and other fun activities to do at your chapter meetings. Some of the documents contain lists of ideas, other documents are actual programs that can be used as is or modified to meet your needs. For example, Eastern Star Olympics has been used at a chapter meeting as well as used at a multi-state exchange. If you have any ideas that you want to share for new programs, modifying or adding to existing programs, or just some fun games to have at chapter meetings, please share them with me and we will add them to this web site.
